Classixx Join The Future Classic Roster

We're very flattered to announce that certified citizens of the internet / one of the world's most universally respected DJ duos, L.A. natives and childhood best friends Classixx are joining the Future Classic family.

Having headlined everywhere from the famed Paris Social Club to New York's Webster Hall, they've been touring constantly since the release of their exuberant 2009 single "I'll Get You," which featured Lady Gaga songwriter Jeppe.

We're staying cryptic on this one. Until you hear from us next all we can say is expect greatness.

Holdin' On Goes Gold

Gold ain't easy to come by these days - just ask the US. A certain young adult from the Northern Beaches of Sydney may disagree though.

Yesterday marked life highlight #5677346545 for Flume as his single 'Holdin On' went gold here in Australia, to go along with his also gold LP.

After finding out the big news whilst chilling at Sydney airport en-route to his first European tour (a few wig outs later) Brother Harley took to his Facebook page and promised to give his latest gold record plaque to one of his fans. What a chiller. Largesse 101.

Flume #1 on iTunes

19 November 2012

Sydney's FLUME has charged last week's ARIA Chart with his self-titled debut, claiming the #2 position in its first week of release. (A band called 'One Direction' claimed the #1 spot.) Remarkably, Flume's album spent most of the week at #1 on the iTunes chart.

It's an impressive rise for the 21-year-old beatmaker and production whiz who played his first show just one year ago. Since then, he has built up a huge fanbase by releasing a succession of assured singles ('Sleepless', 'Holdin On') and accomplished remixes (most notably Hermitude's 'Hyperparadise') and some stand-out appearances at Splendour In The Grass and triple j's national House Party tour. Not bad for someone that started making music after finding Andrew G's Music Maker in a packet of Nutri-Grain at age 11.

Flume

21-year-old rising wunderkind, Flume, creates atmospheric, beat-driven music that draws on a range of influences to create a fresh new sound; one capable of bringing a festival crowd to fever pitch and then bringing it right back down again on demand.

He's built up a huge fanbase, thanks to appearances at Splendour in the Grass, triple j's House Party and the breakout/continued success of the 'Sleepless' EP, which spent several weeks atop the iTunes Electronic Charts and is currently at #2 on that chart.

It's testament to his originality and talent that both sides of the Atlantic are flipping for Flume. Recent International highlights include The Fader video premiere of ‘Sleepless’, a Gorilla Vs Bear September Mix feature, an i-D Online inclusion in September mix and a Dazed Digital RISE feature, culminating in a peak position of #4 on Hype Machine's Most Popular Artist chart.

Charles Murdoch

Welcome the newest addition to the Future Classic management roster - Charles Murdoch.

After blowing minds internally with a deluge of rarified blissed out unreleased originals that slithered into our inboxes and swooning the internets with his rub of Flume - Sleepless for Beatport's remix comp, 2013 is coming up Charlie. Cryptic we know but... Expect lots.

Catch him at the following shows:

Sydney: Wed 23 Jan @ Paradiso @ Sydney Town Hall

Touch Sensitive

Touch Sensitive's debut single 'Body Stop' was one of the first tracks released on Future Classic, all the way back in 2004. Cloaked in anonymity it's cosmic vibes and Italo authenticity made it a cult favourite among discerning DJ circles from East London to Brooklyn. Re-emerging in 2006 as Arithmatixx! it was later revealed both aliases to be the solo work of Van She co-founding member Michael Di Francesco.

Fast forward to 2012 and his third track 'Real Talk', a collaboration with Anna Lunoe, saw Touch Sensitive spend five (5!) months at the top of the Beatport indie-dance charts with what was universally recognised as one of the underground club hits of the year.

2013 see's the release of his debut EP 'Show Me The Pizza Guy', previewed by LA super-producers Classixx in their mix for The Fader, elaborating that "Pizza Guy" transports me to running the final stretch of my high school x country races in slow motion.

Mitzi

Mitzi are a Brisbane-based four piece that specialise in indie dance and disco jams. Having blown audiences away with their debut EP 'All I Heard', MITZI are back with the first single from their forthcoming debut album, mixed in London by Ash Workman (Metronomy, Summer Camp, Klaxons). The deep grooves of ‘Who Will Love You Now’ showcase MITZI's unique brand of garage disco, NYC indie and the light heartedness of Australian pop.

The band's impressive live resume includes sets at Parklife, Splendour In The Grass (DJ Set) and Stereosonic music festivals and supports for Foster The People, Yelle, Neon Indian, Little Dragon, Whitest Boy Alive and Bag Raiders.

Panama

Steeped in splashes of yacht rock, hopeful house music and an avid appreciation for the ‘90s, Sydney quintet Panama make music that is brimming with a quiet, golden nostalgia as it is shimmering and anthemic in its delivery.

Panama first made themselves known with acclaimed debut single ‘Magic’, which was accompanied by remixes from disco deviants Midnight Magic and Gavin Russom. Their debut ‘It’s Not Over’ EP picks up on that bright promise while expanding it’s palette with six tracks that are equally awash with intoxicating rhythm as they are detailed with personal, reflective hues.

Recorded in the city where dreams are made, Panama’s ‘It’s Not Over’ EP glows with the airborne optimism of exciting new possibilities and provides a clear statement of intent that the ascension of this Sydney quintet has only just begun.

Classixx

Hanging Gardens

One of the world’s most universally respected DJ duos, L.A. natives and childhood best friends Classixx have headlined everywhere from the famed Paris Social Club to New York’s Webster Hall, touring constantly since the release of their exuberant 2009 single “I’ll Get You”.

At once beaming, breezy and wistful, Hanging Gardens features a variety of coastal summer anthems, from haunting collaborations with Active Child and Superhumanoids singer Sarah Chernoff, to the gleefully catchy Nancy Whang-featuring “All You’re Waiting For,” French Touch- inspired gem “Holding On” and sublime chords of “Dominoes.” Playing a wide array of instruments on Hanging Gardens, Classixx’ full-length debut features impossibly sunny grooves, blithe melodies bred by the coast, coaxed out by the surf, expertly crafted for road trips, pool parties and dance clubs.

Flight Facilities

- I Didn't Believe

The ever elusive duo, Flight Facilities, will release their new single ‘I Didn’t Believe’ on May 7th (North America) & May 8th (Australia & rest of world) 2013.

I Didn’t Believe’ is a brief return to familiarity. It's disco. No need to beat about the bush on that one. As taboo as the term has become, the genre has had more come-backs than a Hollywood bad guy. From the bass to the strings, it's nothing more than an unadulterated, feel-good guilty pleasure.

This time around Flight Facilities are joined by their close friend, Elizabeth Rose. The up-and-coming electronic-pop singer/producer in the vein of Bjork and Fever Ray, shows her diversity by bringing an early-80s-Madonna flair to the track.

Touch Sensitive

- Pizza Guy/Show Me

Touch Sensitive's first single 'Body Stop' was one of the first released on Future Classic. A track cloaked in anonymity, its cosmic vibes and italo authenticity made it a cult favourite among discerning dj circles from East London to Brooklyn.

Fast forward to 2012 and his third track 'Real Talk', a collaboration with Anna Lunoe, saw Touch Sensitive spend five (5!) months at the top of the Beatport indie-dance charts with what was universally recognised as one of the underground hits of the year.

2013 see's the release of his debut EP 'Pizza Guy/Show Me', previewed by LA super-producers Classixx in their mix for The Fader and Triple J. They affectionally cite that "The Touch Sensitive tracks are masterfully produced and ultra-emotive. 'Pizza Guy' transports me to running the final stretch of my high school x country races in slow motion."

Order the 12" from our store, and, fittingly, it's posted in a pizza box.

Tigerskin

- Try The Impossible

German producer Tigerskin needs no introduction in discerning deep house circles so we won’t wax lyrical here other than to say our exchange with him prior to this EP being commissioned was based around our love affair with earlier edits/tracks he’d done ‘Chuckle’ and ‘Feel For You’ that get a rinsing on the Future Classic dancefloors.

The EP picks up where those moments left off. ‘Windfall’ and ‘Lied’ are killer non-linear batty disco infused house jams that set dancefloors alight while ‘Try The Impossible’ and ‘In Public’ are deeper jams for the more ‘serious’ moments of club emotion if you can put it that way.

A rare, super limited Future Classic club twelve inch for our deejay friends. Available now at Juno and January 2013 from our webstore.

Jagwar Ma

- The Throw

Fresh ink! We're very stoked to inform y'all that Sydney duo Jagwar Ma have joined the Future Classic family.

Incase you spent 2012 living in a silent, internet-less cave, Jagwar Ma seemingly came fully-formed out of nowhere last summer with their psyched out postmodern sleeper, 'Come Save Me', which garnered a superabundance of approval; ticks from all the legit corners of the web and radio.

Luckily for us NME has already summed up our thought tagging Jagwar Ma as "indie-dance's most exciting new duo" after scoring a berth in their poll for the "World's 20 Most Exciting New Bands of 2013."

New Navy

Following on from the success of last year’s summer hits ‘Zimbabwe’ and ‘Tapioca’, New Navy escaped the Australian winter months and have returned with a bag of new material and a developed sound. The band has been back in the studio once again, and is ready to deliver the first of several new singles recorded in Sydney’s iconic REC Studios with producer Craig Willson.

Summer will see the band's return to touring the country with their beach-party live set and it’s clear that ‘Regular Town’ signals an exciting new chapter for New Navy.

Panama

-It's Not Over EP

Recorded in Los Angeles with super producer, Eric Broucek of DFA Records fame (Holy Ghost, LCD Soundsystem), Panama’s debut EP titled ‘It’s Not Over’ show’s remarkable promise for this Sydney quintet.

A classically trained pianist from the age of six, front man and songwriter Jarrah McCleary grew up in the sticky heat of Australia’s Northern Territory. His previous project, The Dirty Secrets saw the band work between London and Australia with producer and engineer, Nick Terry (Klaxons, Libertines).

Steeped in splashes of yacht rock, hopeful house music and an avid appreciation for the ‘80s, Panama make music that is as brimming with a quiet, golden nostalgia as it is bright and anthemic in its delivery.

MITZI

-Who Will Love You Now

Having blown audiences away with their debut EP 'All I Heard', Mitzi are back with the first single from their forthcoming album Truly Alive. ‘Who Will Love You Now’ showcases MITZI’s unique brand of garage disco, NYC indie and the light heartedness of Australian pop.

On ‘Who Will Love You Now’, the Brisbane quartet no longer comply with a classic pop pigeonhole. Armed with a dreamy, astral delivery, vintage analog warmth and summery sounds, the single is fresh and steeped in disco cool.

MITZI have already worked with Jono Ma (Jagwar Ma, Lost Valentino's, Tracy Thorn, Teenagers in Tokyo) at Ewan Pearson's studio in Berlin on All I Heard, and the new album was mixed in London by Ash Workman (Metronomy, Summer Camp, Klaxons).

Anna Lunoe and Friends

- Real Talk

Anna Lunoe & Friends ‘Real Talk’ EP is all Australian and all party!

On 'Real Talk' Anna teamed up with mysterious Sydney producer Touch Sensitive - who you may remember brought you 'Body Stop' back in 2005 on Future Classic - and another Sydney producer that's been catching lots of attention from the likes of XLR8R, Electronic Beats and inthemix called Flume.

Plus remixes from Adelaide homie DJ HMC and his alter ego Late Nite Tuff Guy!

Flight Facilities

- With You feat. Grovesnor

Flight Facilities have a brand new single called 'With You', this time featuring the vocal work of Hot Chip drummer Grovesnor – something darker, something deeper and something more mature - and it's finally out!

We think Hugo and Jimmy just picked up a hat trick with another killer journey into their world of pop, we also think their adventures in Japan and Daft Punk's Interstella 5555 might of had a bit of an influence on their brand new video clip for 'With You'...

Joakim

- Labyrinth EP

Future Classic have been working with Joakim in Australia for some time now - touring him down under, partying and hosting shows together, trying to get him to go surfing with us and even getting him to put some club touches on Future Classic alumni Mitzi.

On the Labyrinth EP you can catch Joakim's darker DJ friend extended mix, a lush analog slow burner from Canadian duo and Domino Records regulars the Junior Boys, an even slower - borderline chopped and screwed - melodic mix from UK producer Lone and a dirty arpeggiated beast from Deadstock 33s and Stopmakingme.

What a record!

Softwar

- This Time Around

Softwar are 2 body builders from Sydney - Myles Du Chateau & Jeremy Lloyd - and they HAVE FINALLY finished their EP on Future Classic called 'This Time Around'.

As much as we tease Softwar at HOW SLOW THEY ARE they have some pretty serious chops - their debut EP was signed to DJ Kaos' label Jolly Jams, their track 'Colour Flight' was hand picked by Kitsune for their Tokyo Mix CD, their residence at Slow Blow at Goodgod, Sydney has got millions of hot fashion girls into deep house AND they've remixed Mario & Vidis and Mitzi – meaning this will be their third appearance on Future Classic vinyl.

Cadillac

- Cadillac EP

Cadillac is an Australian luxury vehicle marque signed to Future Classic. If you like guitar solos, slow mo piano jams and the sounds of balearic, disco, pop and rock then we might have just the vehicle for you.

On first inspection of their self titled EP you'll find their guitar and synth beast "Dreams" featuring guest vocals of Wolf & Cub's Joel Byrne, the stadium jammer "Past Midnight", a porn interlude called "Endless Summer", "Blue Skies" and "Make You Feel" - two great tunes for dancing to and the glorious piano outro "High For Me".

Flume

- Sleepless EP

Flume is a local Sydney beat maker who's only 21 years of age.

Flume got his first taste for producing at age 13 (!!) from the most unlikely of places - a music production program he found in a cereal box.

It began Flume's obsession with all things synthetic, and started his addiction for plug-ins, sample packs & vintage analogue hardware.

'Sleepless' is Flume's debut EP and has enough lush pads, chopped and chipmunked vocals, saw synths and awesome percussion to impress any fan of Hudson Mohawke, Flying Lotus, Seekae or Space Dimension Controller.

Luke Million

Luke Million is a fellow out of Adelaide, Australia and is the hectic keys player and synth wizard from The Swiss. He often starts his morning by bench pressing his Yamaha CP-70 and drinking 3 or 4 shakes of reel to reel tape.

This limited edition 7" picture disc celebrates the Arnold we used to know...

On the first side is the stella italo jam "Arnold". On the flip side is "Sun Splash" - a smoking new tropical jam that should please fans of our Poolside 12" and early Metro Area workouts.

Check out the "Arnold" video clip at futureclassic.com.au and suss out Luke's earlier EP Italo Journey / Octobussy featuring tastey remixes from Mighty Mouse and Brennan Green.

And remember...

DON'T GET BIG, GET MASSIVE.

Mario & Vidis

- Changed EP

Mario and Vidis are two gentlemen from Lithuania. Mario and Vidis' first tune was a remix for Atjazz and Robert Owens that was played and loved by Gilles Peterson, Pete Tong and Laurent Garnier, their first track with vocals 'I'll Be Gone' didn't leave the MTV Baltic Top 20 for half a year! Since then they've worked with Jazzu, Kathy Diamond and released their debut album on their own label Silence Music. (Lithuania geographically parties next to Latvia, Belarus, Poland and the Baltic Sea.)

'Changed' is etherial - the whispy voice of Ernesto and cute skipping drums just make us happy. The video clip kind of wigs us out a little bit too (double meaning).

New Navy

-Regular Town

After the huge success of their 2011 EP Uluwatu, which delivered singles ‘Zimbabwe’ and ‘Tapioca’, New Navy are back with another summery, tropical and upbeat gem titled ‘Regular Town’. Filled with the trademark New Navy sparkling guitars and a basket of unusual percussion, ‘Regular Town’ will be available digitally on Friday 30th November via Future Classic.

Following on from the success of last year’s summer hits ‘Zimbabwe’ and ‘Tapioca’, New Navy escaped the Australian winter months and have returned with a bag of new material and a developed sound.

After the departure of singer Ben McInerny early on in the band’s career, ‘Regular Town’ now sees the official joining of touring front man Luke O’Loughlin to the band, with his warm melodic vocals across this new single.

Bicep

It's been a pretty fun couple of months in the Adult Disco with Todd Terje and Tiger & Woods both hitting the club in recent months.

In Feb things are going to get a whole lot more muscular with the Australian debut of one our favourite production teams / DJ teams / bloggers / label guys… BICEP!!!

With an aesthetic that is camp / fun / light hearted, this Irish duo have been pushing and more recently making some of the best straight up house tunes we've heard in ages. With tunes like $tripper and last year's mega bomb Vision Of Love released on their very own Feel My Bicep imprint these guys really are onto a good thing.

Before jumping into their production and remix work though they were already pretty widely followed for their excellent Feel My Bicep blog. Essential reading if you want to get a whole lot of house music from a trusted source.

After two super disco-y outings, we're looking forward to some late night house on the Civic dance floor... see you in the basement.

Lindstrøm

Going by the name Lindstrøm, Norwegian born Hans Peter Lindstrom is a multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer. Having fast become Norway’s most notable musical export, he’s responsible for spearheading the ‘space disco’ sound across the globe alongside Prins Thomas and Todd Terje. High profile remixes for Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Roxy Music, Doves, The Horrors and LCD Soundsystem have helped Lindstrøm enjoy a cult like status within dance music circles.

A three time Spellemannsprisen (Norwegian Grammys) winner, Lindstrøm will have your feet firmly on the Paradiso Town Hall dancefloor.

Tiger & Woods

Tiger & Woods are Larry Tiger and David Woods, two European producers shrouded in mystery and responsible for some very special tuned, remixed, over-dubbed, sliced and diced extended disco edits.

One day in a fairly dusty basement (digging for records of course), these two fine gentlemen nearly got into a fight over a nameless boogie record which is so rare (super rare!) that even the usual disco detectives hadn’t discovered it yet.

With an aesthetic that is camp / fun / light hearted this Irish duo have been pushing and more recently making some of the best straight up house tunes we've heard in ages.

After two super disco-y outings, we're looking forward to some late night house on the Civic dance floor… see you in the basement.

Lindstrom x Darshan Jesrani

ADULT DISCO MELBOURNE

Norway's aural maestro Lindstrøm & Metro Area / New York's Darshan Jesrani are tram-city bound for one very intergalactic evening of folding time and shaping waves.

With roadcases full of positive placidity, they come in peace. Transport your state space years beyond 2013. Simply put: experience two legends of the modern disco era at their best.

Todd Terje

We're super stoked to announce our final Adult Disco for 2012 will be with none other than Norwegian maestro... TODD TERJE!

2012 has been a huge year for Terje with his "It's The Arps" EP getting play everywhere, in particular the lead single "Inspector Norse"! As well as his own productions and starting his 'Olsen' record label, he's turned in killer reworks for Hot Chip, Lindstrom, Bjorn Torske, Joakim and Units to name just a few.

More than just a kickass producer and edits man - Todd Terje really really knows how to throw down in the DJ booth too! Anyone present at his 2010 Adult Disco set can attest, the man knows how to make a floor shake for hours on end.

Come help us turn it out in the basement of the Civic on Saturday 8 December for one last 2012 hurrah!

Michael Mayer

Future Classic is proud to present renowned German DJ & co-owner of the iconic Kompakt Record Label, Michael Mayer, as he embarks on his most ambitious world tour yet in support of his sophomore full length "Mantasy".

As a DJ, label owner, producer & remixer, Michael Mayer remains one of Germany's core celebrities in dance music. Spending his weekdays overseeing Kompakt's output as well as its distribution wing - the home to over 50 independent record labels - it is quite an amazing feat then that he can sneak into the studio to produce his own music & remix the likes of Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Foals & Rufus Wainwright.

An intimate & sweeping trip to the core of the Kompakt sound itself, Mantasy picks up on the worldwide esteem the producer/DJ is held in, & it does so in the most versatile manner, perfectly showcasing the many, sides of Michael Mayer.

Kenji Takimi

Ask around in Japan about house and disco and you won't get too far without the name Kenji Takimi coming up. There are a number of reasons for this: His label, Crue-L Records, has been at the forefront of alternative Japanese music since the early '90s, presenting acts like Cornelius and Buffalo Daughter alongside work from dance favourites Theo Parrish and DJ Harvey. The label has also been home to his own music: Takimi's projects include Crue-l Grand Orchestra, Luger-Ego and Being Borings, the latter of which was responsible for one of last year's under-the-radar gems in Love House of Love.

Freeform

Just after The Loft opened at King Street Wharf we began our ‘Freeform’ Sunday sessions running from late afternoon into the evening and going strong for 2 years.

Freeform played host to an eclectic mix of international guests from the Unabombers to A Guy Called Gerald and several local musicians, the event also incorporated our satellite events such as Freeform Cinema, an offshoot arthouse short film series.

Apres

For 4 years Future Classic hosted Apres, a laidback weekly Sunday afternoon event at the Tilbury Hotel in Woolloomooloo.

A BBQ, friendly bar staff and turntables on the balcony in the sunshine set the scene for these under-the-radar sessions that gave our local and international guests (often performing under alias) the chance to play more diverse sets than they would in the club.

The event also spawned a four part 12 inch vinyl series and compilation cd.

Flume

Flume is a local Sydney beat maker who's only 21 years of age.

Flume got his first taste for producing at age 13 (!!) from the most unlikely of places - a music production program he found in a cereal box.

It began Flume's obsession with all things synthetic, and started his addiction for plug-ins, sample packs & vintage analogue hardware.

Sleepless is Flume's debut EP and has enough lush pads, chopped and chipmunked vocals, saw synths and awesome percussion to impress any fan of Hudson Mohawke, Flying Lotus, Seekae or Space Dimension Controller.

Future Classic is excited to announce a new signing - a new band to emerge from Sydney's bubbling live music scene lead by Jarrah McCleary called Panama.

The first single from Panama is Magic, a modern summer anthem and something sure to warm you up if you're stuck in winter.

Magic was produced and mixed in Los Angeles by Eric Broucek of DFA fame (Holy Ghost, Eleanor Friedberger, !!!) and will be released on vinyl with remixes by Permanent Vacation regulars Midnight Magic (you might of spotted their remix in The Magician's Magictape 24) and DFA heavyweight Gavin Russom (LCD Soundsystem & The Crystal Ark). Magic has been picking up lots of love from Australian radio too with triple j and community radio already getting behind it.

Convaire

Just in time for the Australian Summer, Sydney’s indie-electronic-popettes, Convaire bring the first and title tune from their highly anticipated debut EP, The New You.

Equal measures quiet childhood nostalgia and barefooted Summer festival romance, The New You is a sparkling indication of what Convaire do so exceptionally well – the art of creating synth-happy, ‘80s inspired, chill-sweet pop songs.

Inspired by the likes of Talking Heads, Friendly Fires and Phoenix, Convaire were first given airtime by local Sydney radio heroes, FBI Radio.

Since then, the four-turned-five piece released their first single Gate Track in September ‘10 to national airplay and gushing reviews. Their exceptional reputation was vindicated whilst winning a Triple J Unearthed initiative, which saw the band play alongside Delorean, Kele (Bloc Party) and 2manydjs at Sydney’s iconic dance festival, Parklife.

Drambuie

'The Premise'

For the last 2 years we've done music supervision for Drambuie 'The Premise' project.

Consumers enter a competition to design their bar online, the winners of round one are then shortlisted to be mentored by a renowned industry personality and moving to the next round sees the finalists present their ideas to a panel of judges, with finally the winner seeing their design come to life in the form of their own bar.

This year the soundtrack is Mitzi 'All I Heard'. In 2010 we placed Dantom Eeprom's track 'Thanks for Nothing' on the Infine Label from Paris.

Project 5 is an urban arts initiative presented by Cockle Bay Wharf, designed and curated by aMBUSH Gallery to support the arts through pop-up live art, music and auction events held each year.

The Future Classic DJs are selecting the beats and we've hooked up a big sound system to play with so come down, catch some art and listen to some tunes. Fingers crossed it's sunny.
